Today, Kyle and I went to River Bends, which plays right over the Clinton River. And, oh yes, I got wet. It was a really good time. I ended up three over par (Assuming that every hole is a Par 4), and I think I beat Kyle by a stroke. I believe we're going again Monday night...maybe to the same course, I'm not sure. It was a very solid course.

I Love Me Some Disc Golf

The Heart Of Fantasy Season...
What better time of year than July and August for fantasy sports? I can't think of anything better. Baseball's entering the heart of the season (By the way, I'm 8-4, and if Ken beats Andy this week, I'll be in a tie for first place in my division with both of them). And, of course, the first signs of fantasy football are coming. Andrew already picked up ESPN's Fantasy Football magazine, and he's already set up two leagues. I know of four leagues already that I'll be playing in, and it's already time to start prepping for them. I've got a draft on August 17 at my house, August 25 at the church, August...I think 11 online, and I don't remember when the Yahoo! one is. But I'm excited.
I need to pick it up in the church league. I had a decent team last year, but I got ousted in the first round because of LT and finished 7th. In every other league, though, I averaged a finish of 2.5 or something like that (2nd or 3rd in every other league I played in). I'd like to actually get a win this year though...maybe I will, as long as I don't have to deal with stupid scoring systems. When you go 18-2 throughout the season and playoffs and your only two losses come because of a messed-up scoring system (Seriously, what system doesn't offer any points to a defense for getting a shutout?); well, there's only so much you can do.
Time for some wins!

You've Got To Love Tuesdays...
Tuesdays are just plain awesome. After all, it's new release day! Any day that new music comes out is great.
And this week, Kelly Clarkson's latest came out. Let's face it, she's going to sell well, plain and simple. She may be outdone in the years to come by other American Idol competitors (*cough* Carrie Underwood *cough* Daughtry *cough*), but no one can take away her title of the original American Idol...not even she can get rid of it, try as she might.
This new CD, My December, is kind of boring. It's not particularly impressive. Maybe there's a reason that Clive Davis wanted to keep her in the pop realm. I know she wants to become a more rock chick, and that's nice and all, but she's only average as a rocker. Never Again is easily her worst single not from the debut disc. And a lot of the disc is similar in style both musically and lyrically. There's a lot of "scorned lover" type tracks...makes me wonder what's going on in Kelly's personal life that's making her write so...angrily, I guess.
There are some really good tracks on this disc, though. The next single, Sober, is potentially one of her best tracks to date. Throughout the disc, she continues to prove her vocal prowess. There is simply no denying what a good singer this woman is.
Her ballads tend to be excellent, her "rocker" tracks tend to be subpar (Unless you're a die-hard Kelly fan, in which case you love anything and everything she does and will be appalled to see anyone "dissing" her). This is one of those discs that has enough redeeming qualities that it should make it into the Top 25 of the year, but maybe not incredibly high up there.
The ones worth buying: Sober, Maybe (A track that gives a rather different approach to her music), How I Feel (One of the solid upbeat tracks), and pretty much the entire last half of the disc.

There's A Whole 'Nother Me You Need To See...Go Check Out Myspace
So I picked up two discs on iTunes today. I would've gotten them at the store, but I didn't have enough money for that (And Andrew gave me a $15 iTunes card for my birthday, which went well with the 11 I still had on my account). Both are excellent discs and currently are sitting in my Top 5 of the year, right next to each other.
The first was Project 86's Rival Factions. These guys continue to impress on this disc. Project is one of my favorite bands around, and they totally blow away everything else in the hard rock realm. The lyrics, the vocals, the music...it's all there all the time. That's why I love these guys. Plus, their live show is awesome (Even in the rain...perhaps especially in the rain). This disc has some great tracks on it (And some even better titles), and it's definitely worth a look.
And then there's Brad Paisley's latest disc, 5th Gear. I've got to say, this disc has at least two or three songs that made me laugh out loud (Including the song which that line that titles this post comes from, Online...definitely good for a laugh for anyone who hangs out on Myspace). But there's some really awesome serious songs as well, which is of course what he is known for. Letter To Me, It Did, and Oh Love (Which features the lovely vocals on one Carrie Underwood). Throw in a great version of the classic church song, When We All Get To Heaven and a track from the Kung Pao Buckaroos (Who still have the funniest Christmas song I've ever heard), and you've got one incredible disc that currently stands at #3 for the year (Behind, of course, Relient K and Anberlin).
On other notes, tomorrow night is the church picnic, which to me means just one thing: Ultimate Frisbee! I get to get back on the Ultimate field and do some dominating. And no, that's not cockiness, that's just fact. It happens every time we play out there...myself and a few others always just rise to the occasion and make the spectacular plays look easy.

Birthday Reminiscings
So yesterday was the birthday. I'm now 22. I spent the end of the day at a grad party...ended up staying for a long time. It was a good time. Bonfire and such....enjoyable stuff.
But before that I went disc golfing with Preston and Kyle. We went to Stony Creek and played on their course. It was awesome! I haven't played in probably more than two years, since I was at Western. Stony's got a pretty decent course. We skipped hole 14 because it had a bog in the middle. Kyle also lost one of my ultra-long drivers in the rough on what we thought should be the easiest hole (Though Preston and Kyle both hit the rough on the right, and I hit the rough on the left). But it was still a great way to spend a birthday. Kyle's all into disc golf now, so he's going out to get a set tomorrow, and he wants to start going more often.

Partying Like It's...1952
That was the last no-hitter a Detroit Tigers pitcher had thrown at home...until last night. I'm currently watching the replay on FSN Detroit of Justin Verlander's insanely awesome game. He threw the first Tigers no-hitter since 1984. The last one to happen in Detroit was in '73, but that was Nolan Ryan for the Angels. The last time a Tigers pitcher threw a no-hitter at home was, as I mentioned, way back in '52. Over 50 years since Tigers fans have seen a pitching performance like that in Detroit with one of their guys doing it. Simply an amazing game.
Seriously, what other starter still throws fastballs at 102 in the 9th inning? Verlander is quickly solidifying himself as one of the best pitchers to come around in a long time. Rookie of the Year last year, a no-hitter and a 7-2 record this year. People were talking about Bonderman as having AL Cy Young winner potential this year, but man, I'm not going to be surprised if I hear Verlander's name thrown in the mix for the rest of the year.
In other, non no-hitter related news, tonight is the last meeting of The Storm for the year, and I'm seriously excited. I just finished putting the final touches on the countdown, and I think this is going to be a pretty cool night.

Everything Comes Down To Poo
Yet another great song from the Scrubs musical episode. I mean, Guy Love is totally awesome (And will be appearing in The Storm's Top 10 this Wednesday), but this one is certainly as funny. Maybe that's just a guy thing...but a song about poo...hilarious.
Anyway, I'm excited about the upcoming months. This Wednesday is the last Wednesday night for The Storm until late August/early September, and it's going to be excellent. I'm having a great time just looking back at the stuff we did this year, and I think the kids will too. This summer we get to take a break, but there's still lots of stuff going on. There's church picnics, a Tigers game, CJ Barrymore's, Freshmen Day, and probably a bonfire/pool party or two. It's going to be a good time, and hopefully it will be a beneficial time for the kids that are coming up into The Storm next year. There are about 7 or 8 5th graders that will be coming up next year (Which is about the amount of 8th graders we're losing), and we're inviting them to join us this summer for Barrymore's and the various other things we'll be doing. Hopefully this summer will be a good time for me to meet them, and it'd be great if we could get at least a few of them to come and get acquainted with The Storm before September.

The End Is Near...
I can't believe there are just two meetings of The Storm left this year. It's really been an awesome year. We started small, but we've got a good group of kids, and it's been growing (Which is simply great!). I'm preparing for next Wednesday's final meeting, when we do The Storm Top 10. It's going to be a really cool night, and it's a great idea that I'm completely taking from Ken. After all, what better way to end the year than to reminisce and remind the kids one last time of all the things that went on this year? We're going to review most of the messages series that we did, and there's also winter retreat to reminisce on and...well, an amusing Scrubs clip to throw in there as well. I'm excited for next week already!
I'm going to be 22 in less than two weeks now. I managed to get the night off of work, so I can do something. I'm thinking I'd like to just hang out with some people at a bonfire or something...I don't know. I'm sure I'll find something to do.
