The Weekend Update

Interesting weekend, I suppose. I worked Saturday and Sunday night (Like I do every Saturday and Sunday night) and had church on Sunday morning. However, though I normally host Saturday nights at the Horn of the Ram (Yes, yes, I know...it's Ram's Horn), I actually cooked this time around. It didn't seem as though we were too busy on either night. However, I noticed two separate things during the two days.

The first thing I noticed is that I'm clearly becoming a better cook. I don't know if that's something I'm necessarily proud of, since it's so obviously not what I want to do in life. Nonetheless, I'm getting better. I actually did the majority of the work both of these nights. Normally I'm over on the fryer when I'm cooking, but it's not because I'm a bad cook, it's simply because no one else wants to do it. Even Furball, easily the best cook we have at Ram's Horn, doesn't like doing fryer because he's so used to not doing it. But he took the day off Saturday, and the cook that subbed for him did a lot of prep stuff (Chopped and sliced stuff, and volunteered to cook the sausage I was supposed to cook...which I was all too happy to let him do), so I ended up "running the show," if you want to put it that way on Saturday night. Same thing happened on Sunday, even though it was the normal Sunday night crew. Aldo somehow ended up over at fryer, and I just kept going on the grill. And when Furball came in, he did a bunch of prep stuff. So I'm seeing that I'm becoming a better cook. Whether that's a thing to be proud of or not...yeah, I'm still not sure.

But the other thing I noticed has nothing to do with work, it just has to do with the fact that I was at work. I've noticed something that I always knew, but that was proven again and again over the last two nights. What I noticed is that, at Ram's Horn (And, for that matter, in most workplaces), everything is like high school. All I want to do is do my job and go home when the time comes. I enjoy talking to most everyone there, but some of the folks take the "Let's talk" thought way too far, and the owner calls them on it every time. It's actually quite comparable to working with middle school kids! The owner says, "Hey, shut up," and you would think that they would get the message, but no, people keep talking. I say, "Hey, be respectful of everyone in the room and leave your shoes on," yet next week, the same kids are taking their shoes off again, as if the rules don't apply! And then there's the people that just never mature. One person actually took my keys Saturday night and "hid" them (Even though I knew from the second I noticed them missing that she had taken them, and told my brother as much) for a while and then dumped a load of salt into Furball's Mountain Dew while he was in the bathroom, because that kind of stuff is apparently funny. Not so much though. All taking my keys did was annoy me, since I wanted to go home, and telling me that I'm "mean" because I warned a friend that his drink had been tampered with is not exactly the most mature thing in the world. This weekend felt like I was back in middle school or high school all over again.

Ah, but that reminds me...Furball, Andrew and I still need to do our Fantasy Football commercial. I'm going to see if we can use it in the church to promote the FFL when the draft date gets a bit closer. It should be a pretty funny commercial, I think. Furball's going to narrate, and either Andrew or I is going to be the "actor" (I think I'll do the filming and editing though, he'd be better at portraying the guy we want to have in this thing). I should put a script together, while I'm at it...it's going to be a pretty simple thing, but even so, it never hurts to have something concrete to go with.
